Treatment We Offer
1. Coronary Artery Disease & Heart Attack (Angina & MI)
Blocked arteries preventing blood flow to the heart muscle.
Overview: When cholesterol plaque builds up in the heart arteries, it restricts blood flow. If an artery becomes completely blocked, it causes a Heart Attack (Myocardial Infarction). Symptoms:
Dr. Roy’s Treatment Approach:
- Angiography (CAG): Dr. Roy uses the Trans-Radial (Wrist) Approach to diagnose blockages. This is less painful than the groin approach and allows patients to walk immediately after the test.
- Angioplasty (PCI): Unblocking the artery using a balloon and placing a Stent (drug-eluting) to keep it open.
- Primary Angioplasty: Emergency life-saving angioplasty performed immediately during a heart attack.
2. Heart Rhythm Disorders (Arrhythmia & Heart Block)
When the heart beats too fast, too slow, or irregularly.
Overview: Electrical faults in the heart can cause it to beat inefficiently. "Heart Block" causes a very slow pulse, while other conditions can cause dangerously fast rhythms. Symptoms:
- Palpitations (fluttering or racing heart).
- Dizziness or lightheadedness.
- Syncope (Fainting/Blackouts): Sudden loss of consciousness.
- Constant fatigue.
Dr. Roy’s Treatment Approach:
- Pacemaker Implantation (PPM): Implanting a small device to regulate the heartbeat.
- Physiological Pacing (LBBaPPM): Dr. Roy specializes in Left Bundle Branch Area Pacing, a modern technique that mimics the heart's natural electrical pattern better than traditional pacemakers.
- ICD Implantation: For patients at risk of sudden cardiac arrest, an ICD acts as a "life vest" that shocks the heart back to normal rhythm.
3. Heart Failure
The heart is too weak to pump blood effectively.
Overview: Heart failure doesn't mean the heart has stopped; it means it is struggling to meet the body's demands, often due to past heart attacks or long-term high blood pressure. Symptoms:
- Swelling in the legs, ankles, and feet (Edema).
- Breathlessness when lying flat (needing extra pillows to sleep).
- Rapid weight gain from fluid retention.
- Dry, hacking cough.
Dr. Roy’s Treatment Approach:
- Medical Management: Optimization of medications to strengthen the heart.
- CRT (Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy): A specialized "3-wire pacemaker" that helps the heart chambers beat in sync, improving pumping efficiency for heart failure patients.
- Lifestyle Guidance: Specialized diet and fluid restriction planning.
4. Structural Heart Defects (Holes in the Heart)
Congenital defects like ASD (Atrial Septal Defect) and PDA,VSD.
Overview: Some adults live with undiagnosed "holes" in their heart walls from birth. Over time, these can strain the heart and lungs. Symptoms:
- Shortness of breath during exercise.
- Frequent respiratory infections.
- Heart murmur (abnormal heart sound) detected by a doctor.
- Bluish tint to skin or lips (in severe cases).
Dr. Roy’s Treatment Approach:
- Device Closure (Non-Surgical): Dr. Roy performs ASD and PDA Closures, VSD Device Closure using a catheter. A "button-like" device is guided through the vein to plug the hole. This avoids open-heart surgery and leaves no chest scar.
5. Valvular Heart Disease (Mitral Stenosis)
Narrowing of the heart valves.
Overview: Valves act as doors for blood flow. Conditions like Rheumatic Heart Disease can cause the Mitral Valve to narrow (Stenosis), blocking blood flow. Symptoms:
- Severe fatigue.
- Palpitations (Atrial Fibrillation).
- Coughing up blood (rare but serious).
- Swollen feet.
Dr. Roy’s Treatment Approach:
- PTMC (Balloon Mitral Valvuloplasty): A procedure where a balloon is used to stretch open the narrowed valve without requiring open-heart valve replacement surgery. TAVI for severe aortic stenosis
6. Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)
Blockages in the leg arteries.
Overview: Just like the heart, arteries in the legs can get blocked by cholesterol, causing poor circulation. Symptoms:
- Claudication: Pain or cramping in the calf/thigh when walking that stops when resting.
- Coldness in the lower leg or foot.
- Non-healing sores or ulcers on the feet.
Dr. Roy’s Treatment Approach:
- Peripheral Angioplasty: Dr. Roy opens blocked leg arteries using balloons and stents to restore blood flow and prevent amputation.
7. Hypertension & Lipid Disorders
The "Silent Killers" – High Blood Pressure and Cholesterol.
Overview: Chronic high blood pressure and high cholesterol/triglycerides damage arteries over years, leading to strokes and heart attacks. Dr. Roy is a Principal Investigator in global trials for managing these conditions. Symptoms:
- Often asymptomatic (Silent).
- Morning headaches or heaviness.
- Visual changes.
Dr. Roy’s Treatment Approach:
- Resistant Hypertension Management: Specialized care for BP that doesn't lower with standard pills.
- Advanced Lipid Management: Treatment for severe Hypertriglyceridemia and high cholesterol to reduce cardiovascular risk.
